The Special Edition DVD comes with 2 hours of brand-new extras that focus on the movie, the music, and the musical. We have added featurettes that showcase the auditions for Billy Elliot the Musical. We delved into the archives and discovered a previously unused deleted scene, and we also arranged for a director's commentary with Stephen Daldry, who was nominated for an Oscar.

This was the project that started ‘Future Time Pictures’. In 2005, we created three films for one of the most celebrated and award-winning musicals on stage. The Real Billy Elliot Diaries' tells the story of the three boys chosen to play Billy in Billy Elliot the Musical. Our Audition Film introduces the thousands of young hopefuls who dream of becoming the next Billy. The opening film is about the generations of British coal miners, featuring archival footage from the British Film Institute and Pathé news archives.
